The House currently has a total of six double bedrooms, with five double beds and one room with two singles. Four of the rooms have en-suites and two share a bathroom. All bathrooms are new and comprise either a bathtub or a shower. There is also a travel cot and two adjustable day beds if you want to create a family room in one of the large bedrooms. There are also two sofa beds. In total the House currently has capacity to sleep 16 comfortably. In future, we plan to finalise the cottage, which is part of the main house, this will create an additional two double bedrooms. We will also create additional sleeping areas in the extensive loft space. All linens and towels are provided.
We recently renovated a huge 'cellier' room on the right wing of the House into a 60m2 kitchen and morning breakfast room. It is now a stunning heart of the home with direct access to the front and rear garden dining areas, BBQ and with great views into the garden. The House also boasts a fabulous formal sitting and dining area where you can serve banquets on a dining table that seats 18 - an original antique that came with the House. With many outdoor and indoor eating areas you will be spoilt for choice. The House is designed to feel as cosy for a family of four as well as easily function for a group of 20! All you have to do is decide what to eat.
The House and grounds are enough to explore for a week. We have tried to make sure every pastime can be enjoyed for families of all ages and groups of all sizes. Children will find a tree swing tent, a large adult size trampoline, swings and slide, a tight rope, bikes and scooter. Not too mention a games room complete with toys and activities for all. The pool has extensive inflatables, noodles and a fine array of sun loungers. The gardens offer trees to climb, insects and animals to discover and a secret stream and bamboo den. There are beautiful walks all around including magical places with breathtaking views of the mountains.
The Ariege is very accessible with Easyjet and Ryanair servicing frequent and affordable flights. Toulouse Blagnac (1 hour drive) and Carcassonne (45mins) are the closest and the drive from both is relatively easy for anyone not used to driving in France. For day time arrivals you will also be spoilt with fabulous scenery. Train routes are also a great option with Pamiers (10 miles) and Foix (16 miles) being the closest main stations to the House and where car rentals and taxi transfers can be arranged. Teilhet is also served by a small airport in Les Pujols but unless you want to book a sky dive, helicopter tour of the Pyrenees or arrive in your private jet - it might not be your first destination.
Between the Mediterranean and the Atlantic, the River L'hers forms a transportation corridor that enabled people to settle in this area from the very earliest times. The immediate village of Teilhet does not service a shop but an excellent food 'market' van arrives every Wednesday to create a pop up experience with fresh pastries, meats, fish and vegetables. There is a great 'local' shop and patisserie at Rieucros, a short bike ride or 5 minutes in a car. Less than 10 minutes scenic drive and you are in the stunning medieval town of Mirepoix. With one of the most famous French markets in the area on a Monday. You will find everything you need including large supermarkets, bars and restaurants. In the opposite direction you will find Pamiers shopping options which will cover all the bases and beyond.
